Variation 1 – Collé Stroke

ID 5361

It is often useful to examine the basic movements of violin playing away from the instrument.

When developing the collé action concentrate on the independent movement of the hand and fingers in the air.

As it is often useful to examine the basic movements of violin playing away from the instrument try also using a pencil as a bow substitute since the pencil is light, balanced and easy to maneuver!

When we begin to use a collé stroke with the bow the baroque bowhold (holding the bow at the balance point) can help, since the balanced position of the bow in the hand means that the 4th finger has less work to do when the bow is in the air.
